Road Trips

Favorite Road Trips

I am a Road Trip Junkie! I’ve worn out 2 1/2 vehicles traveling around the western United Sates and particularly the States of Washington and Oregon. I’ve drank so many mochas from so many espresso stands along the way, it’s a wonder I can sleep at all! Below is a little list of some of my favorite destinations. Many can be experenced together in a day trip, others take at least 2 days, sometimes 3. In any case, I have really enjoyed them all. I’ve also included a brief description of what I have found to be a lot of fun, once I got there.

Potholes State Park, Moses Lake, WA – Kayaking, fishing in seep lakes below the dam. Checking out the turtles in the ponds.

Leavenworth, Bavarian Village, WA -  Fall leaves festival – doing the chicken dance after a few beers at the German “Beergarten” Christmas tree lighting is awesome!

Hiking the Olympic Strip, WA – Last totally undeveloped beach in the United States (actually classified as a national treasure a couple years ago, Can’t be touched!) Deer are so tame you have to push them away for a decent photograph.

Port Townsend, WA -  Eating Pizza at the uptown pizza joint, upstairs so you can hear the LOUDEST dumbwaiter on earth!

Victoria BC, CANADA – High tea at the Empress Hotel. Lunch at the Garricks Head Pub. Stay at the Empress. One of the only “6 Star” hotels in North America.

Cannon Beach & Astoria, Oregon – Walking the pooches on the Beach to Haystack rock (Where the Goonies  and Kindergarten Cop were filmed) Maritime Museum, and the Fort where the only Japanese WWII shot was fired on mainland USA. One shot!

Seaside, Oregon – closest thing to an East Coast Coney island we ave. Absolute tourist town (trap). Lot’s of shops.

Hood River, Oregon – average age of population 32. My kind of place! If you want to stay young. Hang out where the young folks do!

Vantage, Columbia River, WA  – Wanupum Ginko State Park, Columbia Gorge Kayaking, fishing. Petrified forest ? Ancient petroglyphs.

Tillamook, Oregon – Eating lunch at the Blue Heron Cheese Company. Visiting with Piere the Goat.

Hillsboro, Oregon – Get a case of Niagra wine at the Oak Knoll Winery. YUM!

Rockaway Beach, Oregon – the home of “Easy Street” if you ever wondered where it was! Absolute tourist trap extraordinaire!!

Garibaldi, Oregon – Hanging out with the teenagers on the dock on Saturday nights. They play their boom boxes, sneak a few beers and dance, fish and set crab traps off a 300’ dock. It’s a hoot!

Emerald Downs, WA – Horse racing, annual wiener dog race.
